Lake Days

Plans were made, the plans then changed, the plans then had to be rearranged and finally X off the list. Then came the opportunity to put into motion the plan again !!! It’s how it goes some times.

Then came the weather ! For days it was rain, lightning storms and hail ! Sunny days for maybe a few hours and back to cloudy skies making mud of the dirt roads and in the city rivers and puddles so big you wonder if you will make it through ! Fun as it may be it also ment I was stuck waiting for roads to dry up so my car could make the trek to take us adventuring deep into the mountains to check off some bucket list explora type things then home again jiggity jig. I instead listed bills to go pay in the rain.

The days off from work were coming to an end and then it’s like Chanticleer himself came to my rescue and brought the sun out! Not wanting to risk a drive to see that I may still get stuck the original plans were put on hold and after a quick google search of “lake near me”.

The search went more like heyyyyy a gooooooo goo … Gooogle … hey google? HEY GOoogle!!! Hey Google..Hey Google..

Then I typed it cause google had enough of me ! I find out theres a lake closer than my previous planned trip, score already saving cash and time ! I also find out it’s got a paved camp ground with everything you need for a quick getaway !

I grab the tent, the coolers, cloths and blankets for us and we head out!

We make a few stops for schnacks and water then we got outta town ! Getting Max excited because I’m getting excited he starts to bork as I’m telling him LAKE ! LAKE ! LAKE !

Driving up to the lake the desert skies were blue and and the grass so green after such a big drink. Almost no cars it was so peaceful ! Driving with out stopping every 5 minutes to take it in and take a picture was feeling impossible for the first 15 minutes and then I was there turning off to the Lake !!!

I was driving through the Pueblo then crossed the river and there it was the lake ! Giving my self time to get lost I take the first turn off !

Getting lucky getting lost I find the Over Look !

Luck struck again as I was not reading signs and just driving and we ended up at the campgrounds ! The lake and surrounding area to camp, fish, hike and boat are not so big you will get lost, it’s also clearly marked I just dont read because I think it’s more fun to cruise around !

Cochiti Lake has some amazing views, a dog beach, a human no dogs allowed beach, plenty of area to fish and a dock for your boats!

Sunset on the dog beach !

To pitch a tent is $12 bucks a night, I just drove in I did not make a reservation. Its suggests to online and shows almost no spots available for the campground. I took a chance after some failed attempts at calling besides it was so close and I was glad I did. I was one of maybe 5 campers ! It was after the holiday and so quiet like we had the lake to our self !

Tent view !

Theres some small trails and of course the Lake to walk around . The water was perfect not fishy smelling at all like some fishing lakes. The temperature was perfect. The first day after we found a spot, set up and paid we got to the lake around 4 and the water was cool, compared to the desert sun beating down on you after pitching a very easy pop up tent that kept flying away in the wind !!! A very hot Max and I enjoyed cooling off !!

The second day after breakfast it was about 11 and we headed down looking forward to cooling off. The water this time was a Luke warm still cooler than under the shade but not as cool as it gets later in the day. It was perfect either way just floating in the water taking in the views !

We found a favorite spot and kept going back to sit and stare our days away !

We swam, we danced, we hiked, Max sniffed and sniffed, we ate and ate, I laughed and played chase with Max till my sides hurt, we slept under the stars, Max found a tree and dug a hole by it and buried only he knows ! His first time and he was such a big brave boy sticking his feet in even swimming and hanging out with me on the giant seashell floater. I could not have planned this trip. I’m so grateful this trip just happened upon me !!

So many dragons flies!

Often times I’m so stuck on having a plan that I forget to let life flow. I have probably passed this lake this pueblo and the many more wonders here a hundred times never stopping to spend a day with the dragonflies on the lake or listening to the waves crash on the shore. Not having a plan other than have fun, to google and go is my new recommendation to every one!

Stay wylde !!!

‘Bout Tha Base

Went for a candy run after chase for hours at the park with Max. On our way back home Honey Combs in the bag and I’m stealing glimpses of the Sandia Mountains turning pink. Max is resting his head on the window seal sniffing away loving the breeze. I had my fave jam ( Like Sugar- I’m a funky being can ya guess the artist ? ) cranked to 11 it was a perfect cool summer evening. Then it happened thee UUUURRRGGGGEEuhhh !

K, OK, OKAY now to find the road we just passed ???

Get lost ✓

Follow the base. Get lost again. Just take left turns and cruise. Find a isolated place to park with complete access to the perfect spots we will now call our fave

✓✓✓✓

11 to 0 and in park the beasts were unleashed !

Imagine us now crossing paths back and forth energetically smelling the flowers, checking out everything ! Max barking to show me some lizards he found and me shouting to come check out the caterpillar nest ! Some were munching getting ready to grow wings !

The name of the trail : Unknown

Catching the sunset with these beings from their munch spot !

I call this trail DA BABY BEARS HOOD because of the warning on the entrance that states its bear country! OH MY ! We are always going to fast to stop and read one day we will go a slower pace and update . Max at 1 deep in his terrible 2’s listens and is sooo smart but when I tell him “safe safe boy go free” he zoooooms!

Butterflies, bumblebees and lizards galore on this side of the base !

The trail is kept by the city and offers bear proof trash cans, heavy duty biodegradable poop bags and a map ! With many many trails that showcase the diverse Flora and Fauna ( Max is watching Adams Family as I work ! ) around the base its perfect for any one! You do not need heavy duty shoes or gear here to safely enjoy many desert goodies !

*Bear spray because I took that warning seriously !*

Unlike most trails its not heavily trafficked nor is there ever a problem finding parking . Its clean, quiet and the vegetation is so lush. Blooms of purple and orange next to the cactus thats bright green there is so much to sniff we left with our nose tips full of pollen !

The leveled trails around the base had us engaged in the many desert blooms and tasting yummy sweet honeysuckle until I snapped it had been about an hour and we both needed some real dinner. Bellies now full I sit here more than grateful thats how we spent our day !

Woke up to a crazy hair still sleepy wolf baby and spent the day soaking up the sun, having lunch at the park and playing chase, getting lost turning it into taking a cruise ending with finding a new fave place to stop and smell the flowers !

Glad I got the camera in time for this one !

I want to send out some Wylde Wolf vibes to all you’s guy’s to encourage you to make every day an adventure!

My fave thing in the world beside Max is being in nature, wylde its just how Im meant to be ! Life has so many beautiful views we often do not get to see. Beings we often bypass never stopping to ask whats a day in the life?

A life looking ahead, above and all around not at a phone, a computer or camera. A life full of compassion, love and memories is the life Im building for my son and I. Come sit at our table and share in our tales of adventures from the world of a busy ant, the life of a ray of sun peeking through the trees, the buzz on ground bees, the moonrise view described by a desert bloom and other strange beauties!
